Job Description

Reporting to the Manager, Enterprise Risk within the Portfolio of Quality & Risk Management, the key function of this role will be to develop, support, and coordinate emergency preparedness education, training, and associated activities across the organization. The successful incumbent will be required to work collaboratively with all key stakeholders, including physicians, nurses, other health professionals, management, as well as external hospital partners and agencies. This role is pivotal in ensuring an effective hospital-wide response to disasters and other potential emergency situations. In addition, this role will require supporting day-to-day Risk Management duties.

 

 

Contribute to organizational safety by:

  • Facilitates development and evaluation of corporate wide emergency preparedness (EP) education and training using multiple modalities (e.g., web-based eLearning; didactic sessions; simulation tabletop exercises, etc.) in collaboration with eLearning Specialists and others.
  • Coordinates and conducts education related to EP (e.g., Orientation, Recertification, other).
  • Coordinates annual EP drill for each Emergency Code (excluding Fire, Code Blue/Pink).
  • Provides guidance and advice to teams on planning and conducting emergency response code exercises (e.g., tabletop, mock drills) and staff on access eLearning modules.
  • Maintains records/database of EP education and training; tracks corporate compliance with mandatory EP training and provides reports for Leaders as required.
  • Provides support for the hospital's Emergency Preparedness Steering Committee.
  • Implement proactive and reactive strategies to mitigate risk across organization
  • Prepare annual claims summaries and reports for Manager, Enterprise Risk
  • Provide support in identifying risk for claims management
  • Perform other related duties as required within Professional Practice, Education and Risk Portfolio

 

What must you have?

  • Undergraduate degree from a recognized University in a healthcare related field or equivalent experience and qualifications.
  • One to three years emergency management, preferably in healthcare.
  • Sound knowledge of emergency response codes in a hospital setting.
  • Working knowledge of the Incident Management System (IMS) for emergency preparedness

  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and Visio.

  • Proven attendance record.
  • Demonstrates understanding and complies with patient and staff safety policies and procedures that foster a safe and inclusive environment for all.
  • Ability to lead and faciliate large size group and team meetings.
  • Effectively uses empathy in interactions with others.

  • Emergency Preparedness management certificate an asset
  • Risk Management Certificate an asset
  • Project management and Risk management experience is an asset.
