Role Overview:

The Specialist, Fundraising Communications supports the development of compelling, donor-centered content that advances major and transformational giving and supports donor stewardship. This role is integral to crafting persuasive proposals, impact reports, stewardship materials, and donor stories that demonstrate the power of philanthropy in transforming health care in York Region.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Fundraising Communications and working closely with cross-functional teams, the Specialist brings donor impact to life through storytelling, content development, and compelling messaging across multiple platforms.

 

Contribute to the Foundation by:

  • Support the creation of persuasive, donor-focused content including annual giving appeals, proposals, pitch decks, impact reports, stewardship materials and news releases.
  • Conduct interviews with hospital staff, patients, donors, and other stakeholders to gather meaningful stories that align with philanthropic priorities.
  • Write and edit tailored content for high-value donor materials, ensuring consistency in tone, brand voice, and strategic messaging.
  • Contribute to the development of donor stories and impact content that highlight the value of philanthropy across clinical programs and areas of greatest need.
  • Assist in deploying donor-centric content across Foundation owned digital and social channels.
  • Collaborate with the broader marketing and communications team to support Foundation-wide initiatives, including social media, email campaigns, website content and storytelling.
  • Support the stewardship team in executing communications materials for major gift announcements and stewardship events.
  • Contribute editorial content to Foundation publications such as In Touch magazine.
  • Ensure all communications are accurate, brand-aligned, and tailored to specific audiences including donors, clinicians, internal teams and community stakeholders.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and best practices in nonprofit and healthcare storytelling and fundraising communications, including the use of AI tools to enhance content creation and donor personalization.

 

What must you have?

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a communications, content development, or fundraising writing role, preferably in the health care or nonprofit sector.
  • Proven experience writing persuasive and emotionally resonant content for donor audiences.
  • Experience conducting interviews and transforming complex or clinical information into accessible, engaging narratives.
  • Familiarity with donor stewardship and fundraising communications best practices.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, email marketing platforms, and CMS tools is an asset.

  • Strong storytelling ability with a donor-centric mindset with interview and research experience.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
    Collaborative team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively leverage AI-powered writing tools, when appropriate, to support the drafting, editing and refinement of donor-communications—enhancing clarity, consistency and emotional resonance.

This position is permanent full-time, with a flexible, hybrid schedule. Some regional travel may be required to meet with staff, donors, partners and volunteer leaders. Competitive compensation plus benefits and pension plan.
