Mackenzie Health’s two hospitals – Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital and Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital – each have a full-service emergency department, core services and specialized services to provide our patients with the care they need. A new Inpatient Mental Health Program opened recently at Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital, and we continue providing the services available to the community at the Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital. Our community-based locations and services continue to provide additional support to the Western York Region.

Position Overview
Mackenzie Health is seeking a psychiatrist fulltime for general outpatient psychiatric services, including seeing patients that are discharged from the inpatient unit on CTOs, and general consults from the wait list for a wide range of presentations. Also, to help with covering inpatient unit when other doctors are away and if interested can be involved in the provision of ECT services. The physician will work in consultation with the Chief of Psychiatry as well as other physicians within the department. There is an on-call requirement as determined by the needs of the department. The physician is expected to provide coverage at both sites. The physician is accountable to the Chief of Psychiatry as well as the program leaders for clinical and operational management within the Psychiatry Program.

Responsibility and Accountability

• The physician must demonstrate the following competencies:
• Assess patients to diagnose the nature and extent of mental health disorders.
• Manage patients through the continuum of hospital care.
• Order treatments, tests, and consults with specialty and primary care physicians where necessary.
• Prescribe, direct, and administer medications to treat various mental health and behavioural disorders.
• Provide on-call services.
• Flexibility to cover other services, as needed.
• Provide consultation on admitted patients, as required.
• Prepare and submit case reports and summaries for Ministry of Health reporting criteria, as required.

Education – Certification – Licenses

• Candidate must possess a Medical Degree (MD) and Fellowship in the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCPC) in Psychiatry.
• Registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario is required.
• Preferred candidates would possess 3 to 5 years’ experience.
