Job Description

The Professional Practice & Education Leader (PPEL) facilitates processes to support excellence in patient-centered practice based on relevant best practice, conceptual frameworks, research literature, professional standards of practice, legislative requirements, and other scholarly resources. The PPEL is responsible for the coordination, implementation, evaluation and sustainability of professional practice projects, programs and initiatives including clinical policies and procedures, integrated care pathways, regulatory requirements for competent and safe practice, mentorship, clinical placements, and healthy work environment initiatives which align with Mackenzie Health’s vision, mission and values. The PPEL will provide leadership in engagement of clinicians to understand workflow needs and collaborate with other teams to optimize use of digital health solutions and adoption of supported clinical application tools for efficient and quality patient care. The PPEL will review data and utilize information from digital health solutions (such as Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and other smart technology) to drive quality improvement initiatives, educational opportunities to enhance patient outcomes.

 

 

Contribute to safe, quality care by:

  • Facilitates quality practice for patient care within the profession.
  • Demonstrates the use of knowledge of health systems and current research to facilitate development of programs to support evidence-based practice.
  • Facilitates the application of regulatory practice for the regulated health care professional.
  • Coordinates planning, development, implementation, and evaluation for corporate clinical practice programs which support professional practice clinical excellence (i.e. mentorship, patient focused care, healthy work environment initiatives, integrated care pathways).
  • Facilitates clinical development of the profession including coordination of needs assessment, development and implementation of corporate practice development plan.
  • Using clinical experience, develop, validate and implement digital health solution improvements in collaboration with Clinical Informatics team and other interprofessional team members, leadership, and other stakeholders.
  • Demonstrates excellent understanding of clinical applications and smart technology to support system optimizations and clinical process improvement. Demonstrates proficiency and experience with data interpretation, gap analysis, and evaluation of quality improvement initiatives/projects.
  • Demonstrates leadership in planning and development of education and training, policy and procedures, and changes of EMR (specifically Epic system).
  • Familiarity with unit council and shared governance model of practice.

 

What must you have?

  • Current registration and member in good standing from the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse or Registered Nurse in the Extended Class (EC).
  • Masters degree Program in Nursing or Healthcare related field, or equivalent experience in a clinical leadership role.
  • Superior interpersonal, coaching, and leadership skills to facilitate identification and development of staff learning needs.
  • A strong desire to promote professional practice and excellence in evidence-based, patient centered care.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of relevant nursing experience.
  • Excellent practice program development and project management skills.
  • Self-directed, works independently and able to effectively lead project teams to achieve outcomes.
  • Effective communication skills, engages others, and is a reflective listener and learner.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of evaluation methodologies.
  • Proven analytical thinking and proactive problem solving and decision making skills.
  • Excellent report writing skills.
  • Proficient with computer programs including; Word Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, Access.
  • Excellent knowledge of the College of Nurses of Ontario standards of practice.
  • Self-motivated, able to cope with several projects at one time.
  • Flexible with change and able to set priorities and problem-solve.
  • Proven attendance record.
  • Ability to perform the essential duties of the job.
