Job Description

The Supervisor, Logistics plays a critical role in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Logistics team, including the Just-In-Time (JIT) supply chain, central stores, and shipping & receiving. Working in close partnership with the Manager, Logistics, the Supervisor provides frontline leadership to staff and ensures smooth, safe, and efficient logistics services that support clinical and operational excellence.

 

This position is responsible for supervising and developing staff, coordinating schedules, and resolving daily operational issues across hospital sites. The Supervisor ensures adherence to best practices, supports training and onboarding, and contributes to departmental goals through process improvement initiatives and project support. The role also serves as a key liaison between logistics and other hospital departments to ensure seamless service delivery, aligned with Mackenzie Health’s strategic goals and commitment to caring.

 

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide operational leadership for the day-to-day logistics functions, including the JIT supply chain program, central stores, and shipping & receiving.
  • Act as the first point of contact for staff and service partners regarding logistics-related inquiries, issues, or escalations.
  • Lead daily staff huddles, conduct purposeful rounding, and ensure priorities and service standards are maintained throughout each shift.
  • Support the recruitment and onboarding of logistics team members; ensure new staff receive thorough orientation, training, and resources.
  • Provide ongoing coaching, mentoring, and performance feedback; contribute to performance appraisal processes.
  • Coordinate staffing assignments, develop schedules, and ensure appropriate coverage to meet service demands.
  • Assist with attendance management, payroll support, and general HR coordination for unionized staff.
  • Conduct inventory audits, expired stock checks, and ensure compliance with inventory accuracy, safety, and cleanliness standards (e.g., 5S methodology).
  • Collaborate with the Manager and other Supervisors to resolve backorder issues and implement effective substitution strategies.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and support the reporting of key performance indicators (KPIs) and quality metrics.
  • Support departmental projects and process improvement initiatives that align with the strategic goals of Mackenzie Health.
  • Support the logistics team by helping gather requirements, documenting processes, and coordinating with stakeholders during ERP setup and rollout.
  • Participate in data entry, cleansing, and validation tasks to ensure system accuracy; assist with system testing and reporting issues during UAT and go-live phases.
  • Help maintain system functionality by monitoring logistics workflows, identifying issues, and assisting in training frontline staff on ERP procedures and updates.
  • Support change management initiatives related to technology, ensuring frontline engagement and readiness.
  • Analyze trends in system usage and logistics performance to inform data-driven decisions that improve service delivery and resource utilization.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with clinical departments, vendors, and internal teams to ensure integrated service delivery.
  • Promote and uphold a culture of safety, quality, and service excellence by adhering to hospital policies and patient safety standards.

 

What must you have?

  • College diploma or university degree in business or supply chain related field, or equivalent experience required.

 

What else do you bring?

  • Minimum of 3 years of direct supervisory experience in logistics or supply chain management, preferably in a healthcare environment.
  • Experience in training and developing staff, ensuring they have the tools and resources to succeed.
  • Experience in staff scheduling and performance monitoring is an asset.
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks, delegate appropriately, and respond to urgent needs in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrated patient and customer-focused approach in all interactions, ensuring a positive experience for both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, both individually and as part of a team, with the ability to address operational challenges effectively.
  • Proven project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
  • Effective teamwork and conflict management abilities, fostering a collaborative work environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and logistics-related software (e.g., Allscripts, SMS auditing tools).
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to juggle competing priorities and ensure timely completion of tasks.
  • Proactive, self-motivated, and capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective partnerships with key stakeholders, both internally and externally.
