As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, the Genetic Counsellor will provide comprehensive genetic services to a diverse, multicultural population. The successful candidate will be responsible for genetic assessments, counselling, and patient support, including diagnostic evaluations, documentation, and follow-up care. This role will primarily support patients in areas such as cancer genetics, prenatal/preconception genetics, and general genetics, collaborating with a medical geneticist on pediatric and adult cases.
In this role, you will work with patients and their families to help them understand the implications of genetic disorders in the context of their personal, familial, and cultural backgrounds. Responsibilities include gathering and analyzing family history and inheritance patterns, calculating recurrence risks, and providing information about genetic testing and related procedures. Additionally, the Genetic Counsellor will serve on committees as needed and act as a resource for genetic information for healthcare professionals, patients, and the general public.
