Job Description

The Technical Specialist Cytology Laboratory is an integrated member of the Laboratory Services team, collaborates closely with laboratory staff, Clinicians and clinical areas to ensure proper patient care. This position will provide Technical oversight of the Cytology Laboratory, collaborate as required with other Lab Discipline Technical Specialists and with the Laboratory Leadership team. Will be responsible for the overall monitoring of the Cytology department, Quality, TAT and Instrumentation as well as for all IQMH requirements as it pertains to the department. The Technical Specialist – Cytology will provide guidance, training and coaching of new and current staff. Will establish and maintain Quality Assurance Program in Cytology. Will be responsible to develop, coordinate and assess the training and competency assessment program in Cytology as well as to provide feedback to staff on performance of competency assessments. Will monitor Quality Control to ensure proper operation of the department as necessary. Provides real time resolution and follow up of any Cytology issues and complaints, either within the Laboratory or within the Hospital (or offsite locations). Collaborates with other Laboratory Technical Specialists and Clinical Units on Cytology matters. Collaborates closely with Laboratory Leadership. Accountable for discipline specific orientation, training and competency programs.

What must you have?

  • Graduate from a recognized Medical Laboratory Technology program and Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) certification as a General Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT)
  • Member in good standing with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO)
  • 5 years or more of current hospital Cytology laboratory experience required
  • Proven understanding of Cytology workflows required.

Preferably, your profile also includes:

  • B.Sc. in healthcare preferred
  • Previous experience with project management experience preferred
  • Understanding of Schedules and scheduling systems preferred.
