Job Description

As a member of the Childcare team, the Registered Early Childhood Educator is responsible for providing care and educational programs for young children. The Registered ECE must be committed to the philosophy of the Childcare Centre and its mandate to provide flexible childcare services.

 

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan, implement and evaluate developmentally appropriate activities and experiences in accordance with the Centre's philosophy. 
  • Provide a daily balance of active/quiet, indoor/outdoor individual/group child/teacher initiated activities. 
  • Establish and carry out daily schedule that incorporates child- directed activity, care routines and transition times. 
  • Organize the learning equipment prior to activities. 
  • Assist children in expressing themselves by engaging in meaningful dialogue and interactions including listening and responding with questions or comments that extend conversations. 
  • Use a variety of teaching techniques including modeling, observing, questioning, demonstrating and reinforcing.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduate of a two year Early Childhood Education Diploma program or equivalent, approved by the Ministry of Community and Social Services. 
  • Registered Member of the Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators (OCECE).
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Certificate.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required.
  • Able to discern relevant information to make effective judgments and decisions to manage care
  • Computer literacy in a Windows environment utilizing Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook at a senior level, as well as a good understanding of PageMaker, Access, Quattro Pro, and Scheduling Systems
  • Proven attendance record.
  • Demonstrates understanding and complies with patient and staff safety policies and procedures that foster a safe and inclusive environment for all.
  • Ability to perform the essential duties of the job.
  • Effectively uses empathy in interactions with others.
  • Demonstrates behaviours consistent with Mackenzie Health’s Commitment to Caring.
