The Service Assistant will assist in performing a variety of services and functions to the support of the unit, following infection control and departmental policies and procedures.
Contribute to safe, quality care by:
- Assisting unit staff with moving chairs, beds, stretchers, machines and other equipment.
- Assisting with the transportation of patients within the unit, under direct clinical supervision.
- Delivering and picking up equipment and supplies.
- Delivering patient lab specimens, blood tests, x-rays to appropriate area.
- Setting up isolation precautions (linen hampers, cart, waste container, isolation linen.
- Distributing linen to patient room.
- Following the direction from the health care team in code situations and peak activity times.
- Monitoring and emptying soiled linen bins.
- Assisting in ensuring patient rooms are ready for new admissions.
- Performing regular safety checks on patient room (i.e. check of bed alarms, ensures room is free of trip hazards).
- Performing regular audits as required (i.e. Hand-Hygiene Audit Checklist).
- Assisting with room cleanliness.
- Monitoring unit inventory and restocks items.
- Restocking unit-specific supply carts, restocking inventory delivered to unit, pick-up/delivering supplies and equipment, re-stocks isolation supplies.
- Maintaining inventory levels of Non-JIT supply carts and provides inventory list to Unit Secretary.
- Checking and stocking patient/treatment areas and supply carts, including Hallway supply cart, hallway linen carts, wound carts, isolation carts, etc.
- Collecting restraints, lifts, slings and other patient specific equipment for laundry for pick up by laundry staff.
What must you have?
- Completion of Grade 12 education or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
- One year experience in a Healthcare environment would be an asset.
