Technical Specialist - Quality and Point of Care Technology
Permanent Full-Time positoin
 
The Technical Specialist, Quality and Point of Care Technology is an integrated member of the Laboratory Services team. This position is responsible for the overall monitoring and compliance of the POCT program across all Mackenzie Health locations and supports the Manage of Laboratory Services responsible for quality. 
 
Contribute to safe, quality care by
• Responsible for the overall monitoring of the corporate POCT program, Quality, TAT and Instrumentation
• Provides guidance, training and coaching of new and current staff
• Establish and maintain a Quality Assurance Program
• Review the Quality Assurance processes, perform QA audits and initiate corrective actions or continual improvement processes as required 
• Review of all Quality Control on an ongoing basis
• Schedule any required service repairs for equipment and maintain documentation
• Member of Laboratory Quality and Safety Committee, also POCT Utilization Committee
• Compile monthly MIS workload statistics as required
• Oversee and initiate evaluation of new technology, methods and POCT procedures and provide guidance on implementation
• Provides real time resolution and follow up of any POCT issues and complaints, either within the Laboratory or within the Hospital sites (or off- site locations)
• Working at each Mackenzie Health site will be required.
• Assist with establishing, documenting, implementing, maintaining and communicating a Quality Management System (QMS) to ensure that medical laboratory services meet regulatory/ professional requirements, the needs of patients and all personnel responsible for patient care, and to support continuous improvement
• Assist in the implementation of current applicable Accreditation Canada, Accreditation Canada Diagnostics Accreditation and ISO 15189PlusTM, Canadian Biosafety Standards and Guidelines, and Health Canada Standards as required within Department of Laboratory Medicine
• Help establishing Quality Indicators to evaluate QMS and leading quality meetings to review QMS performance
• Assist in the facilitation of external and internal audits and liaising with external accreditation bodies
• Experience in developing, writing, editing, and evaluating operational protocols, policies, safety procedures, and validation/verification reports
 
What must you have?
• Graduate from a recognized Medical Laboratory Technology program and Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) certification as a General Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT)
• Member in good standing with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO)
• 5 years or more of hospital laboratory experience required
• Current Quality, Chemistry and POCT Laboratory (Hospital) experience required.

Preferably, your profile also includes:
• B.Sc. in healthcare preferred
• 1 – 2 years of progressive leadership preferred
• POCT Certificate and Quality Management Certificate or applicable education
• Previous experience with project management experience preferred
