Mackenzie Health’s two hospitals – Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital and Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital – each have a full-service emergency department, core services and specialized services to provide our patients with the care they need. A new Inpatient Mental Health Program is scheduled to open in the spring at Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital and we will continue providing the services available to the community at the Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital. Our community-based locations and services continue to provide additional support to the Western York Region.

 

Position Overview

 

Mackenzie Health is seeking multiple psychiatrists full-time – Inpatient, Outpatient, Geriatric, and Child and Adolescent. The Physicians will work in consultation with the Chief of Psychiatry as well as the other physicians within the department. There is an on-call requirement as determined by the needs of the department. The Physicians are expected to provide coverage at both sites. The Physicians are accountable to the Chief of Psychiatry as well as the program leaders for clinical and operational management within the Psychiatry Program.

 

Responsibility and Accountability

 

The Physicians must demonstrate the following competencies:

• Assess patients to diagnose the nature and extent of mental health disorders.
• Manage patients through the continuum of hospital care.
• Order treatments, tests, and consults with specialty and primary care physicians where necessary.
• Prescribe, direct, and administer medications to treat various mental health and behavioural disorders.
• Provide on-call services.
• Flexibility to cover other services, as needed.
• Provide consultation on admitted patients, as required.
• Prepare and submit case reports and summaries for Ministry of Health reporting criteria, as required.

Education – Certification – Licenses

 

• Candidate must possess a Medical Degree (MD) and Fellowship in the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCPC) in Psychiatry.
• Registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario is required.
• Completion of 2 years’ training or experience in psychogeriatrics or credentialing by the Sub-Specialty Committee of the Royal College is preferred, for the Geriatric position.
• Completion of 2 years’ training or experience in child/adolescent psychiatry or credentialing by the Sub-Specialty Committee of the Royal College is preferred, for the Child and Adolescent position.
• Preferred candidates would possess 3 to 5 years’ experience.
