Position Overview
Mackenzie Health Division of General Surgery is looking to recruit an Acute Care Surgeon to join our current group of 11 general surgeons. The successful candidate will work at both the Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital and Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital.
Mackenzie Health supports York Region, a population of more than half a million people. Each hospital has it’s own ACS service and call schedule, with a different surgeon on-call at each site. This is why call is 1 in 6 even though there will be 12 surgeons. Both of our ACS services are managed and led by a Nurse Practitioner.
The acute care general surgeon will be expected to take ACS weeks at both Mackenzie Health Richmond Hill and Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital. Both sites have protected day-time ACS OR time (Monday-Wednesday-Friday at Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital and Tuesday-Thursday at Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital). There is also dedicated ACS endoscopy time daily at Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital. The acute care surgery clinic is run through Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital complete with administrative and nursing support.
The acute care surgeon is expected to take on 1-2 weeks of ACS weeks/month.
Education – Certification – Licenses
Mackenzie Health is not affiliated with any university, but regularly teaches senior general surgery residents. Therefore, teaching expectations are required with this position.
All candidates must have a medical degree approved by the CPSO, an independent CPSO license, certification in the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons in General Surgery and CMPA or equivalent in good standing. Fellowship training is preferred but not required.
